What follows is a mere brain fart; in other words, my computer is working and I know how to type.
This morning I have been thinking of all the reasons why I shouldn't go do my Curves workout. Or maybe that's sort of inside out. Actually, I've been thinking of all the reasons I should go and listing them next to the reasons I don't want to. The biggest reason I don't want to go is because, um, I don't want to. (Honestly, not everything has a good explanation.) However, I do have a pretty good excuse. Whether it is a good enough excuse is the question that is plaguing me this morning.
Here's my excuse: my feet hurt. Especially the right one. Yes, these actually are my feet. Weird, huh? No. I'm kidding.
This is my hurting foot:
Well, yes, that is a left foot. The left one hurts too. This was before my pedicure yesterday. Now they're looking a little less, um, wrinkled and hairy. (Think I'm kidding?)
So here's the deal: I'm cursed with short wide feet. And how a person can live to the ripe old age of 40 and not figure out that they have wide feet is beyond me, but I managed to do it. It's been a long time since I was ripe and old at age 40. I'm even riper (some might say I've gone over to rotten) and older now. But suffice it to say that living to the age of 40 without figuring out that one has wide feet means that one has spent one's entire life in ill-fitting shoes.
Now this isn't completely my fault. It seems to me that some shoe salesperson along the way might have mentioned that my feet were a "D" width instead of just smooshing my feet into "C" widths and selling me the shoes; but then, most shoe stores don't carry wide widths and so the "selling" part of the equation would have suffered. But that brings me to today's excuse for not working out: my foot is hurting.
So here's the story on that: Several years ago, my feet were so bad I could barely walk. On that, I truly am not kidding. If you've ever walked around Disneyland all day, then you have some idea how my feet felt when they hit the ground in the morning. On more than one occasion, I was in tears over the fear that I actually would become disabled by my hurting feet.
So I shelled out the big bucks and got custom orthotics, because honestly, what choice did I have? And my feet improved within months! And not just my feet, but other painful areas on my body as well.
Fast forward to about a month ago when I went to the New Balance store for some new kicks and the New Balance guy tells me I really need to be in a half size larger shoe. (Gravity, Man.)
And even though my feet were feeling fine in my current shoes (they were simply worn out), I agreed to try the next size larger. They felt fine too, so I figure, what the heck? Right? Wrong. Because after wearing those larger shoes for a couple of weeks, my feet are hurting again. I'm kind of a dunce about this kind of stuff, but I can figure out cause and effect. The cause puzzled me a little until I realized that my orthotic no longer fits the shoes and it was slipping back and forth and causing me problems.
Which brings me back to my original dilemma. Should I take the day off and give my feet a break? Or are my feet an excuse for not doing the workout I don't want to do? These are weighty matters, I know. The day is but young. I still have time.

I know what you watn to hear, but I'm not goign to say it - if it really kills you - go for a swim, so much better for the feet ... and all the other joints and parts
You will be so proud of yourself if you don't just put your feet up today! Bite the teeth together and hit the road.. or the pool ..
Laughing hysterically....and knowing foot pain myself, you have all the empathy in the world, but what you do is YOUR choice, hehe.
Frankly, I'd take the day off. If your feet hurt and you have a bad day exercising, then you're going to have a negative association with exercising (even if only temporarily). Take the day off today and go tomorrow after your feet have had time to recuperate. Just wear your old, comfy shoes today. You get a day off to repair the damage, and you can exercise tomorrow with a smile on your face. Win, Win!
I know it's not funny....but I laughed so very hard!! Your pictures alone keep me chuckling...lol.
It is no fun to have sore feet..sore anything!!! My feet hurt years back when I did aerobics...I loved aerobics; but the jumping around didn't help my feet. Now they are fine.
Oh dear... here's a good way to say bye to another day, with a good laugh! I love those wicked-witch-type shoes! So good to read you again. I'd take the day off, I'm sure youdeserve it, and then pamper your feet too. A nice bath, fresh mint cream, a good massage... Have you tried wearing Birkestocks?
Oh man hurting feet are the worst!! I spent an entire year with tendonitis in my foot and thought I wold die so I relate.
So what did you do? Hurting feet are no fun, but it's easy to get into excuse mode (I've had lots of experience there).
I am laughing *so* hard right now! I hope your feet are feeling better soon -- it stinks when your feet hurt. :)
I'm laughing (awesome pictures!) and saying ouch at the same time... when you mention Disney especially. On one of our trips there I had the worst problem with blisters on the bottom of my feet and I was just miserable. Of course I sucked it up and kept right on walking because I didn't want to spoil the vacation, but I always pack special blister bandaids for every trip now just in case. And pack more shoes!
OH MY, I have to agree we the others...you cracking me up. It's no fun to execise when feet or other parts hurt....:(....hope they feel better soon.

You found a picture that describes my feet! They are screaming all the time. Well The right one is screaming the left one is just a whimper. I went through two sets of orthotics and they did help. Then I told my DO (Osteopath) that my feet hurt and he fixed the left one! The right one was stubborn and them I steeped in a hole playing with the grandkids at Thanksgiving. I twisted my heel and jammed it in that position. It feels like the bone is coming through the skin. I have another appointment next week so I hope it helps before walking all over the Dallas Quilt show!
I already read the latest post and am glad you went to your workout! If you are talking about the brand New Balance, you have to also be careful if they are made in the USA or in China. Obviously, they should fit properly, but I have tried the less expensive, Chinese made ones and they had no support and were not as comfortable. The USA made ones are more expensive, but have better support, more of an arch and seem to last a little better. Just my two cents. I do hope your feet feel better soon.
I forgot to mention that I was laughing as I saw the pictures and read the beginning of this post. Glad you can have a sense of humor through your pain.
You are hilarious! I don't know, yet, whether you went or not, but whichever you did is OK with me!
I've gone through some of that as well. Ill-fitting shoes at a very young age which has resulted in bunions, say nothing about the high heels I wore to work for years because, after all, I am a fashion diva. Do that workout, girl. Try the bicycle or eliptical if the treadmill is too painful. (Fashion/old person guru advice.)
Oh, girl, you crack me up!!! Sorry about the foot pain. My dear sweet Bunion is probably nothing compared with what you are going through. You could help me name it, though. (I'm sure you have a good Bunion name stored up in your amazingly funny brain.)
