Lazy Friday

If you're here for the January linky party, click right here.

Today was sort of an apathetic day.  It was hard to get interested in anything.  Erik and I had a nice breakfast this morning...a breakfast that definitely was not on my diet.  Oh well.  Hopefully, it won't throw me too far off my losing trend.  Actually, Erik and I planned this breakfast before I started Curves, and so it seems only fair that it should take priority.  That's the excuse I'm making anyway.

I did manage to get the red birds top-stitched and the blocks all sewn together for the White Trees quilt.

Those are my toes on the left side of this image.  I suppose I shouldn't stand on my white quilt.  This quilt has four borders, but I'm saving those for another day.

Right now, I have so many quilts on the "almost" side of finished, that I'm sort of holding off on them until I get the tops-that-need-quilting quilted.  I have two of those lined up, and I have another top that I'll be finishing up very soon.  I'm not bothered by almost-finished projects.  However, when the tops-that-need- quilting start piling up, then I start getting all weird, nervous, and thirsty about it.  I'm not sure what makes the difference, but it doesn't really matter.

That was pretty much the whole day around here.  The weather has turned nice, and the sun came out this afternoon.  We have sun in our forecast for the next five days, and temperatures in the 50's, which is downright balmy for a February in Oregon.  Look at how pretty the mountains were when I looked out just now.

That's Mt. Rainier on the left and Mt. St. Helens on the right.  We've lived in this house nearly 11 years, and the mountains still never fail to take my breath away.

With the weather warmed up a little, Mike and I are going to tackle the greenhouse this weekend, which I won't bother describing to you.  It is too horrible to contemplate, and much too gruesome to describe.  I'm talking about the last of the tomatoes, never harvested, that have fallen on the ground and turned into furry, grey blobs.  (Oops.  There I go describing it.  Cover your eyes if it's too much to bear.)  I pulled out my sword for protection and opened the door yesterday just out of curiosity.  The vines have died and turned to stiff brown sticks.  When I saw the furry remains of the tomatoes, I quickly shut the door, fearing for my safety.

Yesterday I ordered some seeds, and I'm planning to get my tomato starts going inside the house as soon as they arrive.  I'll sprout them in the laundry room where there is good light, and when it's warm enough, come April or May, I'll move them out to the greenhouse.  It is always a hopeful time of the year when I can start thinking about sprouting next summer's tomato plants and dreaming of the next harvest.

Pretty trees, and pretty mountains! We lived in Spokane before and went to see Mount Saint Helens three times. I miss those mountains.

Oh yes! Spring get here SOON! Little green plants peeking up through the dirt say Spring to me too :*) Sounds as though you've got some nice weather on the way. We're expecting some snow tomorrow - not enough to stick but still it's pretty, then just cold I think.

I love the color play in this quilt from the cool neutrals to the bright red of the birds. And of course, cardinals are my favorite, so I'm pretty much loving your newest quilt :*)

I have to say I am jealous of your view. It is soul refreshing.

You have the most wonderful view! ANd thinking of seeds - seed catalogs are falling into our house, but I am not that ambitious - I buy a few started plants to please the gardener in me.

I have family in Oregon and always enjoyed the views of the mountains. Beautiful!

The red birds on the White Trees is gorgeous! I love just a splash of color, although I can't say I've ever made a quilt like that. Maybe someday.

Enjoy your sprouting when the seeds arrive!

I L.O.V.E that quilt and the little birds just make is even more special. Your mountain view is spectacular especially covered in snow. I am hoping for something similar in a few years when we head down south for retirement.

Oh, please don't talk about spring! That means we're heading for autumn and that leads to winter -- yuck!

And you were teasing me about being overwhelmed by my UFOs!! ;-)

Gosh, you do just beautiful work. And it's all different. Love your latest quilt. You are so disciplined. I yearn for that but it seems there is always something that comes up.

Also, what a gorgeous view! Where you live does sound like a dream!

I am glad I stumbled across your blog after seeing you had one years ago on quiltingboard.com. You have a great gift with writing. I always enjoy reading your updates.

Have a good Saturday!

They take my breath away too and I'm only seeing a picture, in person I would be watching them all day.

Gorgeous picture! Whenever we have visited Washington, Mt. Rainer has always been 'clouded in'. I was finally able to see it last fall on a flight to Vancouver. I love your view - I miss living in the mountains. ~Jeanne

Not that this is close to you but, one of my sisters is a real estate agent in Redmond, WA. I don't think it's all that far from Mt. Rainier. An hour maybe ? It's beautiful up in your part of the country.

I could look at the mountains every day, too. I hope I would take the time to enjoy them!

You have such an incredible view. I'm not sure I get much done, it would be too easy to just look out the windows all the time.

The White Trees quilt is looking great!

I had the same kind of Friday. I call it my Slug Day. I did manage to walk one mile only because my mind couldn't handle the guilt and I had to go out anyway. It warmed up to zero. Otherwise, I laid around and ate pie. Your mountain view is inspiring. Almost like a lake view. Happy Saturday.

Those cardinals are so cute in your trees - that's going to be a stunning piece.
If I had that view, I would be tempted to set my sewing machine right in front of that window.

Love your lazy Friday....mine was lazy in the fun dept....lol...no sewing, had to take care of the shopping and other errands...
But I did get to see a beautiful Mr Baker with all his glory of white snow top and sun smiling down at him. Just like your view, these are breath taken ....:)...
Thanks for sharing
