This quilt is off with my long arm quilter now, so I won't see it again until around the end of March. My quilter, Erin, is very good with traditional designs, and that's what I've asked for. I can't wait to see what she does with it.
For my February goal, I've vowed to free motion quilt and bind my Two Grandmothers quilt. This is a former baby "comforter" that I took apart and remade into a baby quilt. There is a story behind this quilt that you can click on the link to read. To make it a short story, just know that my mother did the embroidery on these blocks when she was a teenager. When my oldest son was born, she handed me the stack of blocks.
I wasn't yet a quilter, and so I sewed the blocks together, slapped some batting and a back on it, hand tied it, and voila! My son's baby comforter was born.
Now I've taken it apart, repaired the embroidery, and given it a sashing and a border. I'm trying to turn it into a proper quilt. It's all ready for quilting and binding, and it's been waiting far too long for its turn at the sewing machine. This is the month, and I'm linking up at the goal setting party for A Lovely Year of Finishes and the finishes and goals party for the 2013 Year of the Finished Project.

Plain and Simple Amish turned out beautifully! The revamped baby quilt looks cute too. You had a pretty good January.

Hey! How fun to see the embroidery you repaired up for quilting now. :) And the Amish worked out very nicely - lots of great areas for quilting magic.
That is so neat that you are giving new life to your mom's creation, I love it.
