Saturday Snooze

It was so cold today.  It never got above 28°F.  The sun was shining where we live (above the clouds), but the valley was shrouded in fog.  Lucky us!  Just before I sat down here, I stepped out into the frigid cold (is that redundant?) and snapped this picture of the mountains turned pink by the setting sun.

Kitties know what to do on a cold day.  When the going gets tough, the tough get snoozing.  (Check out the length of Smitty's tail in the extreme right of this image.  Do you think he'll ever grow into that long tail?)

I was hoping to get all of the blocks sewn together for the Intel Underneath quilt, but I kept getting distracted.  I still have two seams left to sew on 16 blocks, so I really should be able to finish them tomorrow.

For one thing, I got distracted thinking about the back for this quilt.  I had in mind to make two giant blocks like the ones on the front, but when I tried to do the math yesterday, it made my brain hurt.  I had to lie down for a while after doing all that thinking.  Then, today I was sewing away, and had a "well, duh" moment.  It was so obvious that I don't know why I was straining so much to think of it yesterday.  Do you ever do that?

Even so I graphed it out to make sure I was thinking correctly, and there it is!!!  I'm still going to buy a little more fabric since I don't think I have enough to make the whole back AND add borders to the quilt.  I can't get that green and gray PC fabric any more, so I ordered some of this computer keyboard fabric.

I totally have in mind how I'm going to use it now.  Isn't it fun when a plan comes together, even if it is within the confines of one's own mind?  And given my propensity for forgetfulness and distraction, I might want to write it down while it's still fresh.  Things tend to go bad pretty quickly when I store them in my brain.

So, in other distractions, I spent a good amount of the day organizing my stash...not that it was disorganized, but I organized it anyway.  Don't we quilters live to organize our stashes?  In the process, I picked out my pink scraps for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

This month's color is pink.  Here are the colors I've chosen.

I'm making this Little Red Dresses quilt.

I'm going to make the dresses in rainbow colors.  And this is a rather small quilt, so I'm going to make the blocks five by five instead of four by four.  It will work better for the challenge that way.  And I'm going to link up to Scrap Happy Saturday as soon as I finish here!

Finally, did you see the new blog hop brewing over at Madame Samm's?  I'll be joining in.  Check it out!

Did you do any sewing today?  Organizing?  Shivering?

It's been very cold here, too. I stayed in and quilted in my pajamas until dinner time ;-)

I love the drawing of the red dresses quilt--can you share a link for the pattern?

It was raining but now the temps are dropping again, so shivering, lol. I did start a small piece to work on.

We were actually warm for this time of year - high 40's and lots of fog. My furries enjoyed most of the day outside, which made for muddy feet - I did housework, errands, and some grocery shopping! Then we snuggled down for a nap. Now I am playing with my scraps.

It's warm here. Very unusual for January.

Sorry you are having dreary weather. It has been unseasonably hot here. Love your rainbow plan for the little dresses quilt. It looks like it will be extremely adorable. Enjoy your stash sorting, it is the next best thing to sewing.

That is a very long tail! Our weather is bad too. It was almost 50 degrees this morning and by the afternoon it started raining and we're expecting it to drop (today) down in the 20s and have snow plus up to 1/4 of sleet by morning. And my daughter closes tonight so she'll be driving in it after midnight!

What a great layout for using some pink, or any other rainbow colour, scraps!

The high today in Idaho Falls, Idaho was a balmy 5 degrees. The low was -13. Enjoy your 'warm' weather. Our cats and dogs hang out in front of the fireplace in weather like this, too.

I love the red dress quilt. It would be fun to work on.

It was not that cold here, it just felt like it with the north wind blowing. I started another table runner with fabrics from the Bernina shop. They twisted my arm into teaching a folded runner class

Your little friends seem to know how to enjoy life. They look so comfy, and that is a long tail. Your quilting projects look well thought out and I'll be looking forward to seeing more.

Gorgeous picture! And cozy looking cats....Yep, shivering here. THe temp dropped again, but brought a nice blue sky with it. I'm not complaining!

Love the kitties by the fire. I have two cats, and one has a longer than usual tail and the others tail is only 4 inches long. :D Love the dresses quilt, that will be so fun in rainbow colors.

I've been shivering..10 below, organizing by weeding out the bookcase and the vhs/dvd collection and shredding files and sewing by putting the ears on a bear. Today will be more sewing than organizing..maybe.

Love the pink scraps you've picked for this month. I need to get going on my scrap blocks.

I just got back from picking DT up from volleyball practice. It's 29, dark and really, really cold. I think I'm ready for summer.
