January Doll Quilt

 Doll Quilters
My partner is supposed to receive her doll quilt today, and since she lives on the East Coast, I think it's safe to share a picture of her quilt now.  The theme for the January swap was "Snow".  I'm calling this quilt "Sled Ready".

I quilted smoke coming from the chimney, and I quilted snowflakes into the main part of the quilt.  Also, I made a meager attempt at quilting mittens into the border.  You can see my mitten woes here.

This quilt pattern is available free on the internet from Allpeoplequilt.com.  The pattern is called "All Snowed In" and you can find the free pattern right here.  I just did one block, although I made the whole quilt for my friend Lisa as a housewarming gift a while back.  Here's the other quilt I made from this pattern.

If you've been following for a while, you may have noticed that I've gotten a lot of mileage from the white on blue polka dot fabric, and also from the snowy trees fabric.  I made the quilt shown above.  And I also made this doll quilt representing my state of Oregon for a different doll quilt swap.

Originally, I used the snowy trees fabric for the back of this quilt.

I've almost used up all of both fabrics, but I can probably squeeze one more project from them.  It's one of the things I love most about quilting...the continuity of fabrics from quilt to quilt, the history that spans generations, the stories, and the community of quilters--especially all of you!

Next month's Doll Quilt swap theme is going to be "Something I Love".  It's not too late to join us!

This morning I worked on my embroidery for a while.  I try to work on it a little each morning, and it's surprising how much you can get done if you just do one length of thread each day.  Of course, you're separating each length into three, and so you're actually doing three lengths, but who's counting?  It usually takes me about 45 minutes to do all three strands.  I'm nearly finished with the latest vintage miniature sewing machine stitchery.  Picture to come.

Today I'm going to work some more on Matthew's Intel Underneath quilt.  I was hoping to get the blocks sewn together yesterday, but then I was lazy all day and did almost nothing.  Sue and I walked in the morning, and it was a beautiful sunny day for us.

What's on your agenda for today?

Updated to say that I'm linking this post to BOMs Away:

That is a beautiful piece and I am sure she will love it.
I am always downloading free patterns, but never have the time to do them all.

Love the doll quilt! and the big quilt with the stitcheries is awesome. I like the continuity of fabric from one quilt to another as well.

Love the doll quilt! I also like to get mileage out of fabric and see them reoccur in my projects. Just plane fun!

I am enchanted with the blue quilt with the embroidery and the stars. I'm not sure if I like the embroidery best or the stars you used to border the embroidery. And I like that it is blue rather than red.

Sled Ready is really cute. That blue tree fabric is really pretty and very versatile. Looking forward to seeing what you do for next month.
