Disappointed (Not!)

Okay, so if you've been following my diet and exercise (non)commitment, you'll want to read on.  Otherwise, just turn the page.  (Waits patiently.)  Okay, so let's whisper about how bad we are about keeping our commitment to exercise...and while we're at it, we can giggle too.

I saw this on Facebook the other day (thanks, Sue!).  It cracked me up because it so perfectly fit with the stern talking-to I'm always giving myself about getting on the diet and exercise lap bandwagon (get it?  Ha Ha Ha, Hee Hee Hee, Hoo Hoo Hoo), and staying on it.

I'm telling you, I've fallen off the wagon so many times now, that I probably have some kind of injury that keeps me from exercising, don't you think?

Thanksgiving and Christmas had me so completely distracted that I just gave up on my commitment about halfway through December and decided to wait until the New Year.  Of course, I never return the first week of the New Year, because all those other people who have made New Year's resolutions will be there for at least three or four days.  Then, they'll be gone and the rest of us serious exercisers can have the place to ourselves again.  So my plan was to return last week.  Um, next week.  Um, today.

So, of course, I awakened ready to jump into the car and drive as fast as my wheels could carry me on a frosty morning and jump willingly into a cold swimming pool.  The temperatures haven't gone above freezing since I last checked in with my frosty fotos.  Looking at this, I can imagine it just makes you want to run around outside naked, doesn't it?  I mean, I'm just doing people a favor by actually wearing my swimsuit.

Nevertheless, I gave myself such a stern talking-to this morning as I sat drinking my coffee and reading my email that there was no way, no how, no fricking way I was not going swimming this morning.  Then, the phone rang.  It was Mike telling me that the roads were really icy and that he'd seen multiple cars off on the side, including the firetruck that came to rescue somebody.

"Oh Noooooooooooooooooo!"  I said, possibly a little too enthusiastically.  "Well, I guess I can't go swimming this morning.  Whaaaaaaaaaaa.  I'm so upset!  Please, somebody call the whambulance!"  So, there's simply no way I can go out today.  I mean, it would be too dangerous.  I could get hurt.  Or possibly somebody else could get hurt.  Or possibly my car might get wrecked.  All true.  Woot!  Er, I mean, Shoot!  Oh well.  The best laid plans.

So speaking of my diet, I had breakfast with Matthew yesterday morning, and then we went out shopping for some new clothes for him to wear when he starts his new job.  (I mean, doesn't everybody need new clothes for a new job?)  He's been living too far away for me to spoil him for the past several years, and so I was getting my kid-spoil-fix.  And when I walked in the front door of the restaurant, I was immediately tempted by their dessert case off to the side.

I didn't actually order any of these things.  No, I was sensible and ordered the oatmeal apple crisp.  (It has "oatmeal" in it, so of course, it's healthy and low calorie.  Uh-huh.)  I thought it was a good idea to take a picture though so that I could gaze longingly at them and drool on my phone during times of great desperation.  Like this morning when I couldn't go swimming.  (Heavy sigh.)

Matthew and I made the mistake of going into Old Navy where they force you to walk into the baby section to get to the fitting rooms.  Here's what I saw:

(Even heavier sigh.)  When Matthew came out of the fitting room, he put his arm around my shoulder and suggested we walk away as quickly as possible.  Good advice from one so young.

So, since I can't go swimming, I might as well sew.  I suppose I could do some housework, but I'm so upset that I can't go swimming that I probably should just head straight to the sewing room, don't you think?

Yeah, me too.

You are just too funny my girl! I wouldn't go out in ice either - no matter what the reason. I need to get some errands done today as we are expecting a couple of days of storms. Then I can stay pleasantly inside and SEW.

I would kill (ok kill is a bit harsh but you get the picture) to go jump in a pool and swim several thousand yards. Yes, I'm probably a sick person, that you wouldn't want as a workout buddy because I would be dragging your butt to the pool. LOL You can totally burn a ton of calories cleaning the house. Sewing can be exercise too especially as you wrestle a large heavy quilt through your machine, and countless trips of walking to the ironing board across the room if you aren't lucky enough to have it right next to your machine.

Ice. yep, probably the only thing, ok, the second only thing that would cause me to not move to the NW (reflecting: 1972, Salmon St. bridge/overpass -ICE, got across only by sides of tires rubbing along the curb!). Heck, I don't even like ice in my beverages! I totally agree on the oatmeal apple crisp - oatmeal *good*, apples *good*...eat all you want!

Or that ironing board could be strategically placed at the other end of the house, now that's SERIOUS exercise in my book! Just emerged from my sewing cave to see what's going on in the world, DH has my car with the studded tires so I'm not going anywhere on this ice!

I might have to find that shirt for my daughter. She LOVES bacon and HATES exercise!

I have a new theory that if quilters did less chain piecing and got up to iron after sewing just a few pieces instead of sewing 437 in a chain they would be getting more exercise. I of course would be exempt because I'm having knee problems. Heee Heee

I awoke to snow in the yard. Yeaah, I thought. I get to stay home all day! THen I opened the door and saw that the schools were in session and the streets were clear! Drat! now I had to get out , but it was to the quilting ship, so it was not too bad!

Heading to the sewing room is a good idea. Doing anything else would be too traumatic after not being able to go swim!
We are getting a blast of nasty weather here in the southeast. People here freak out at the sight of snow or ice and everything shuts down! I think I'll head to the sewing room also!

Tee-hee! I am getting my exercise lately by taking my laundry one-item-at-a-time, the twenty five steps to the line and returning uphill for the next item! Of course, you can't join me unless you want frozen clothes!

I think heading for your sewing room is the perfect thing to do in icy conditions. Its far to dangerous to risk injury on the ice that could prevent you sewing your gorgeous quilts or petting you two sewing companions. Far better to get your exercise by playing with Smitty or moving between sewing machine and ironing board and moving some quilts around.

Isn't it great to be able to spoil your children (however grown up they get)It's a shame you had to go through the baby department to get to the changing rooms. However I'm using the thought of grandchildren at some point in the future as a spur to get fitter and if possible slimmer. As I'll be retired when it happens I will need to be fit enough to keep up with them. I'm managing to keep up the walking each day but the diet isn't going to happen until the weather warms up. Cold weather always makes me long for thick soups and crusty bread and casseroles.

Yucky ice ... poor thing, kept from the exercise you were so looking forward to! Ah well and fiddle-dee-dee ... there's always tomorrow! Love the tee-shirt! My sentiments exactly! :)

As I sit here delaying the start of my workout you make me wish for ice, hah.
I have almost those exact shoes tucked away in a drawer from when my baby wore them, thanks for the memories.

Oh yeah, baby, apple & oatmeal is HEALTH food, have at it!! I say that as I sit here eating my bagel & bacon! Ice rarely even crosses my lips, but daggum, I sure despise driving on/in it! That would be one of the major factors in our "follow the sun" philosophy of life.

Good luck & be safe, when you do venture out!

The baby shoes get me every time!!!

LOL!! No ice driving. It's a rule. Oatmeal IS healthy (I read it on the internet, so it must be true...), and heck, adding apple, well, that is just plain health food. I love spoiling the big kids (I know, you need a grandbaby!)when they come home, such a treat for me!

You cracked me up and then it hit me...OMG YOU WROTE MY THOUGHTS! I'm exactly like you with exercise and food, and I won't make resolutions about it and fail within four days etc etc. just what you wrote, really!

I'm so sorry that you weren't able to swim today. :*( Besides the ice on the road, there could have been ice on the pool too, and that could have caused a head injury as you dove in, and we just can't have that!
I would have been greatly tempted by the Marionberry thingie in the case - good for you for going with the OATMEAL & apple crisp. Yep. Oatmeal = healthy.
