52 Photos Project: All Is Calm

The prompt for this week's 52 Photos Project is "All Is Calm"  Here's my entry:

This image was taken on a visit to Mt. Rainier National Park during the Fall.  We are fortunate to be half a day's drive from this marvelous resource.  It rained while we were there, but it failed to dampen our spirits.  We just put on our rain gear and hiked, giving little notice to the weather.  We hiked a trail that took us to the Grove of the Patriarchs where the trees are on an island protected on both sides by a river.  The trees have been protected from fire and so they have reached 300 feet in height and some are over 1,000 years old.  Imagine all that has happened on Earth in that time span!  It is a truly tranquil place...cathedral-like almost.  It's an easy hike and well worth it if you ever have a chance to visit the park.

Oh Barbara, this is beautiful! And so calm indeed. Love those rich, soothing browns and golds, you really caught it!

Those benches ... the ones that look like split tree trunks ... are spectacular! Who did you catch getting in a serene moment? I'd certainly do my quiet time sitting there! :)

Mount Rainier is one of my favorite places too. My children were born in WA state and we drove there a few times to hike. The mountian is always beautiful with snow. I love the flowers in the spring and summer months. I have several photos of my children with the mountain in the background. We lived about 2 hours from the mountain and we could see it every day from a distance...let me rephrase that we could see it every day that wasn't cloudy and gray that is...which was mostly in the summer months only as it was cloudy most of the year. But when you could see the mountain there was nothing more gorgeous!

What a beautiful scene! I felt the peace just looking at it. I have visited the Redwood Forests in California, and there is just nothing quite like being in the presence of such ancient trees. There is a sense of wishing they could talk and share all that they have seen. But then you hope they don't say a word because the peace they exude is priceless.

What a beautiful picture. It really shows the calmness. Wouldn't it be great if we could all enjoy some quiet time there when needed.

I wish we could have hiked and enjoyed the park more when we visited grand kids in that area. I would have loved to see the Grove!

I live within an easy drive from Mt. Rainier -- and I didn't know about this beautiful grove of trees. How do you access the island? Is there a bridge?

Great photo! You definitely can just feel the peace looking at the photo. Great capture of the feeling, not just the image.
