Some Blocks

Each time I sit down to write a blog post now, I think I'll be telling you that it will probably be the last sewing I'll do before our trip.  But if I had said that the last time I wrote a blog post, I would have been lying, because here I am sewing.  So maybe I'll just stop trying to decide when my last sewing day will be and take each day as it comes.  What a concept!  Maybe I'll market it by writing a self help book or something.  I could call it "Easy Come, Easy Sew" or "Sew Get Over It Already".  Catchy, huh?

My daughter-in-law was scheduled for back surgery this morning, but last I heard from Erik late this afternoon, they were still waiting.  I'm trying to not be pessimistic about what such a late start might indicate.  Hopefully, things will go off without a hitch, and as I'm writing this, she may already be finished and getting her post-op care.  I hope so.  She'll have an overnight stay in the hospital, and then I'll pick her up tomorrow.

I started my day with a pedicure.  Of course, I can't go camping without a pedicure.  Anyone knows that.  And then I needed a few things from the grocery store.  It seems I spend half my life at the grocery store.  Certainly a trip into town is not complete until I've made the requisite stop at the grocery store.  It's the peril of being someone who loves to cook.  The raw materials are available at the grocery store, which is not nearly as much fun as a fabric store.

And then I came home.  Smitty busied himself inside the house today, doing battle with the flies that flew in the door left ajar for him.  Occasionally, something gets knocked over or off of something else, but so far nothing has been destroyed...nothing I've noticed, at least.

These are the blocks I made today.  The final block for the Blogger's BOM.  This block was created by Amy Ellis of Amy's Creative Side.

Then I completed the September block for the Hello Sun BOM.

And I made the first block for the new Block of the Week QAL, Grandmother's Choice.  I'm making mine scrappy, which seems fitting since my own grandmother was frugal to a fault.  I am using the general colors of the blocks that are posted as examples.

I can't say I'm thrilled with the way these colors came together, but it'll do for now.

And with that, I was ready to quit.  With Mike on his way home, I suppose I should start something for dinner.  It's hard to concentrate on much of anything when I'm feeling so distracted with concern for Mae.  Hopefully, I'll have some news from Erik soon.

Sending prayers for Mae. I'm glad you're getting in more sewing than you thought you would. Better than the other way around!

My prayers that everything goes well. I would love to go camping, still need to clean out our camper and get new bedding and cushions. Not sure if it is worth it, but a new one is out of the questions, tempted to go back to a tent and get comfy cots.

I think you're on to something with that book. :) I'm happy to hear your sneaking in some last minute sewing time. Prayers that all goes well with your DIL's surgery. You are sweet to help them out. What are you doing with the kitties while you're away? I'm thinking that Smitty is waiting to engage in mischief until you're gone. :)

I hope all is well with Mae, don't read anything into the late start there could be lots of reasons.
Nothings been destroyed that you've noticed...makes me think there's a closet or corner with a whole pile of stashed broken things hidden away, Smitty is one smart kitty.

I did a double then triple take at your Amy's Creative Side BOM. It looked scrappy at first, but there's a method to its madness. Very cool.

Very busy day, but you ended up with some pretty nice blocks too.
