Stash Report: Week 29

Looking for my Red, White, & Blue block and my Blogiversary Giveaway?  Click right here.

I managed to get in a little more sewing this week.  Yesterday I added another two rows to the Salt Water Taffy flannel quilt.

This is a quilt I've made before, and it is a family favorite.  The last time I made it, I used earth tone fabrics.  This time I'm using pastels.  As I was making the pieced blocks this time, I decided to add more fabrics to the mix, and so I've gone back to the flannel scrap bin.  The 6 1/2-inch blocks are already cut for the whole quilt, but I'm making the pieced blocks as I go.  Originally, I was going to stick with all the same fabrics throughout the quilt, but there didn't seem to be enough variation to suit me.  I decided to use one fabric from what I'd already cut and then add something that contrasted well with it.  I think I'll like it better that way.

So this quilt didn't really add any yardage to my total, but I made a back this week that accounted for all of the yardage in and most of the yardage out.

Fabric Used:  6 1/2 yards
Fabric Used in 2012: 100 1/4 yards

Fabric Purchased:  5 yards
Total Fabric Purchased in 2012:  77 3/4 yards

Net Used in 2012:  22 1/2 yards

Not a bad tally.

Also I wanted to tell you about the block I received from my partner in the Block Swap Adventure.  This block is from Sharon B. of Lilabelle Lane Creations in Australia.  Isn't this beautiful?

Sharon's piecing is absolutely perfect, and I love the colors she chose.  Thank you, Sharon!

And now I'm off to get ready to leave for the Oregon Lavender Festival going on this weekend.  There are a number of destinations to choose from, but sadly, only 24 hours in the day.  Even less if you're trying to arrive at one of the destinations when they're actually open!  We decided to go to the Blue Heron Herbary out on Sauvie Island, which is a worthwhile destination all its own.  Of course, I'm packing up all my camera gear and I'll tell you more about it a little later on.

I'll have to say that the weather is a little iffy.  I keep hoping that the threatening clouds will burn off and that the sun will come out.  It looked promising a little while ago, but now it's kind of clouded over again.  It is, however, a nice change from the muggy weather we had yesterday.  I know those of you suffering in the hotter areas of the country will be pulling out your sympathy violins to play "My Heart Bleeds for you".  Now . . . be nice.  You can take some comfort in knowing that your vegetable gardens are growing and mine is not.

Enjoy your day on Sauvies Island. I grew up there and I still like to visit. It has changed quite a bit from when I lived there. Back then it was mostly dairy farms but now there is only one left. Another big change is the s having been taken off the end but anyone who was there before that time still uses the s. Just doesn't sound right to any of us without it.

Your Salt Water Taffy quilt is going to be so soft & cuddly! Will it be a lap quilt or for a bed? I just love flannel quilts and often put it on the back of cotton quilts for the cuddliness (is that a word? Spell checker says not LOL!) Sharon did a wonderful job on your swap block! I just love the way the flowered fabric seems to float in the background. Really cute! I hope the weather cooperated for you today :*)

Great stash busting! Salt Water taffy is looking great and so does your swap block. Love the colors in both.
