Packed Up, Ready to Go

Packing is one of my least favorite things to do.  Unpacking is even worse.  Nevertheless, I pulled myself together this afternoon and got it all done.  I was planning to take a bunch of jeans with me to give to my friend's daughter because I've finally given up on the idea that I'm ever going to fit into them again.  Those days are gone, I'm afraid, along with a lot of other things I remember less wistfully . . . like high heels and pantyhose.  It's pretty hard to blast me out of my Birkenstocks these days.  Actually, they're New Balance walking shoes, but Birkenstocks sounded oh so Northwest and cool.  As for the jeans, I decided they were taking up too much room in my suitcase, so I'll mail them when I get back.

The biggest thing I needed to do today besides packing was to take Smitty to the vet and have him looked over.  He got a clean bill of health and an immunization.

To look at that sweet face, you wouldn't have believed the ruckus he kicked up when she gave him a vaccine.  First, he jumped out of her arms with the hypodermic stuck in his hip.  She started over again with a clean needle and took him into a different room and wrapped him in a towel so that (mercifully) I wouldn't have to witness the torture.  He let out a yowl that sounded like three cats fighting, and it went on for about 20 seconds.  I can hear you now:  Really?  That little thing?  Really.  Believe it.  He might be small, but he packs a wallop.

So I still need to water the tomatoes.  They're getting so big and lush that one wonders if it's safe to enter the greenhouse at this point.  You could go in there and never come out again.  You could be eaten by tomatoes and no one would hear you screaming.  Probably not, but it does bring a picture to mind, doesn't it?  And once that's done, there's nothing to do but sit around and wait to wake up in the morning.  I suppose I could make dinner at some point too.

4:00 a.m . . . that's the rise and shine time.  I'll rise, but I won't shine.  Thank goodness for coffee.  And thank goodness for Starbucks at the airport.  Truly a gift from the gods.  I may or may not blog along the way, although if I know myself, I probably won't be able to resist.  The words start bursting out of me and it gets embarrassing if I go too long with no release.  You know what I mean, don't you?  In any case, I do have a few posts written ahead of time, so you'll barely know I'm gone.  If you were hoping for a break from my endless prattle, you'll be sorely disappointed.

I love reading about Smitty. He looks so much like my Bud did when we first found him.....pink nose, long striped tail, and the one eye patch. It's like a trip down memory lane for me, as Bud now rests in my memory garden. Thanks for sharing his antics, and have a wonderful trip.

Gosh, I hate packing too. Not sure which is worse - packing vs unpacking. Ijust like to be "settled" and that is what I wish for you....to be settled very soon.

Glad Smitty has a good report from his Dr.

That sweet face looks like he's saying "I hope you're not believing everything mom's writing about me, I'm adorable". Safe trip, I think you'll miss Smitty alot.

Smitty looks so sweet, but I think the ones that look so sweet tend to be the ones you have to look out for.

Enjoy your trip!

Killer Tomatoes..no kidding. Mine have busted down their teepee cages and I'm having a hard time picking. They are gorgeous once I find them. Happy trails. Smitty and Gracie will be hugging each other when you get back, I bet.

I'm glad we'll still hear from you... I would miss your voice (typing?) terribly otherwise :)

I bet Smitty and the vet set it up that he would let out that big howl to make you feel guilty, they were probably laughing it up in there :)
