BOMS Away: A Few Blocks

Today is going to be my last chance to sew until I get back from my trip.  Tomorrow I need to take Smitty to the vet to have him checked over.  We have a feeling he might have some ear mites, which would not be surprising.  Regardless, I would be taking him to our vet to have him checked over and to be sure his immunizations are up to date.  And, of course, I need to pack tomorrow because my flight to California leaves bright and early Tuesday morning.  I'm getting excited about meeting my friend Lisa's granddaughters and presenting them with their doll quilts.  I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

So I spent the day making a few blocks.  First was the 11th block for the Blogger's BOM.  The tutorial was written by Victoria Findlay Wolf at Bumblebeans.  She calls this the Split Ohio Star, and here's my version:

Of course, I had my constant companion and sewing assistant Smitty with me at all times.

Eventually, he got worn down and took a nap on my stool.  He is definitely a busy little guy, but quite a lover too.

That was my opportunity to make a block for my swap partner in the Block Swap Adventure.  My partner, Laurrie, asked for a Scrappy Trip Around the World block and provided me with an excellent tutorial that was terrifically easy.  I'm sharing it with you here.  Basically, you sew together six strips of fabric, make them into a tube, then cut the tube into sections, and use your seam ripper to take the tube apart at the right spot, then sew the strips back together in this configuration.  Easy as pie.

I hope Laurrie likes my version of the block.  She had no preference regarding colors, and so I made mine nice and bright.

Finally, I traced out the next embroidery quilt block for the Love Me Love My Cat quilt.  I want to take this with me to work on when I'm on the plane.  I may not work on it at all, but it'll be good to have it along.

This is my next embroidery project once I finish binding the Home is Where the Heart Is quilt . . . but I'm not taking the quilt with me.  I'm very practical that way.  Besides, the quilt is huge!

I bet Smitty will not be happy about going to see the vet :*) Glad go hear Miss Gracie is warming up slightly from your earlier post.

That sounds like an interesting method to make the Trip block - I'll have to try it!

Have a fun trip and enjoy visiting with your friend =^..^=

You got some good work done this week - I'm impressed, because I'd be too easily distracted by such a cutie hanging around with me!

Can't wait to check out the tutorial. I love your little helper! Please give him some chin scratchin' from me! Is the Love Me Love My Cat a kit? As far as the designs? I'm hesitantly thinking of doing one myself and can't remember if you told us of it's origins or not.

Looks like you had a good sewing day. Having been away from reading blogs for awhile I didn't realize you were coming to California. Have a wonderful time!!

Beautiful blocks. I've seen the tube method for making a Trip Around the World Quilts. It's one of those projects that's been on the bucket list for awhile now.
