Yesterday and this morning, I worked on the Wonky Schoolhouse I've been making for my friend Lisa, who is a teacher. When I saw this pattern, it moved immediately to the top of my to-do list. Don't you love it when you find the perfect pattern for a friend?
This turned out so cute.
I embellished it with flower and butterfly buttons, as well as an apple sitting on the fence post . . . an apple for the teacher.
The walkway is quilted with pebbling.
I quilted yellow rays around the sun appliques and added a yellow bead to the end of each of them.
I put stippling in the black name panel
and I quilted "shingles" on the roofs of the schoolhouse.
I found this great school bus fabric for the back.
I'm going to be visiting Lisa at the end of July when I'll give her this quilt along with the other five doll quilts I made for her granddaughters. It's going to be so much fun to see her. I've said this before, but it bears repeating: Lisa and I have been friends since the 7th grade, which is way longer ago than either of us cares to think about.

Wonderful job of wonky quilting. It all fit perfectly.
Wow! Your stitches are perfect. I love the beads too. You are a master quilter, I kneel at your feet in my humble and pitiful experience! I wish I lived closer (or even on that half of the country) to come and learn from you! I love all the elements you put into this cute quilt!
My BFF and I have been BFF's since 8th grade. We just celebrated 35 years this Spring. Isn't it great to have a friend like that. Great quilt for your friend.
Muy lindos tus trabajos!!! Besos
That is just too too cute! I want one and I'm not even a teacher. Well I guess I was a homeschool teacher. She will LOVE it! All of your little extra embellishments just add extra charm to an already amazing little quilt!

This is so sweet! I love it.
Great job on the schoolhouse quilt Barbara!!! She is going to love it! Your quilting really enhances the quilt and adds a lot of dimension and definition. I just love the pebbles in the walkway! But my favorite part of the quilt is the apple on the fencepost - pure cuteness! =^..^=
That is absolutely adorable! And your quilting stitches and embellishments make it even better (how that was possible, I don't know, but you did it!). Those beads at the end of the sun's rays are genius, and the flower and apple buttons simply perfect!!!
Sooooo cute - I'm glad you shared. I have only ever quilted straight-line, in the ditch, and this is just sooo imaginative!!!
She will love it, same as she loves you!!
Barbara, another darling finish! I love the bright, primary colors in this -- very teacher appropriate and very happy! The button flowers are a sweet touch, too! :)
Any teacher would love that quilt. She is a lucky friend!
You did good, that quilting is wonderful, I love all of the different styles. Was it fun?
I love all of the little details in this quilt: the beads on the sun rays, quilted shingles on the roof, flower and butterfly buttons, and the school team name on the plane banner. I would have loved to have a quilt like this in my classroom when I was teaching, I'm sure your friend will too.
Great job! It still just makes me S*M*I*L*E!!!
How cute! I really love that you used buttons for the flowers!
Thanks for sharing.
