Today I finished the last of my monthly swap blocks. The one is for the Block Lotto. This month's block is called Hot Cross 9-Patch, and we were asked to use plaids in the 9-patch with a white background and a contrasting fabric. I chose this woven quilter's cotton that I took from the Traveling Stash when it visited my house.
I really like this block. Wouldn't it be cute made up into a whole quilt with different colors of fabric? Maybe I'll get lucky and win some blocks this month.
With all my swap and bee blocks finished, I was ready to make quilt sandwiches for the two doll quilts I have waiting to be quilted. The first one is for my friend Lisa's granddaughter, whose name is Irish. I made this double Irish chain for her and added the green shamrock applique. Initially, I was going to take the safe route and use white thread that would be less obvious. Ultimately, I trusted myself enough to sew in a straight line and decided on the green.
I wasn't sure what to do about the shamrocks at first. Eventually, I decided to outline them and then quilt just up to their edges. When I reached the shamrock, I cut thread and buried the ends in the quilt, then picked it up again on the other side. You can see it better from the back, I think. There is a shamrock just above Irish's name in this next image.
Here's another shot of the back. I have the quilting just slightly over half finished. Then I'll add a bright green binding, and finish it up. It seems like I've been working on this one for a long time.
I haven't started quilting it yet, but I made the quilt sandwich for my swap doll quilt for the monthly doll quilt swap. I can't show you the whole thing yet because it's a surprise for my partner, Denise. Here's a little teaser.
This month's optional theme was "Three Colors". I'll be quilting this one in black thread.
That's as far as I got today. I don't know if I'll have time to sew tomorrow or not. Hopefully, I'll get some time in the afternoon. In any case, I'll get able to do some sewing over the weekend.
Now I'm going to go finish up the Thai coconut milk soup I put into my slow cooker this morning. The house smells so good. Don't you love that about slow cookers?

The slow cooker will be my friend on Sunday while I'm at church. Doing scalloped potatoes. I'm on the binding on the doll quilt.
I have seen others with the 9-patch block - I just love this block and can see using my box of up-cycled men's shirts with this. Lovely quilts/quilting - a peek - looks like fun with that fabric.
You're doing a great job on quilting Irish's quilt. I love your lotto block too - great use of men't shirts I think!!!
I really love the pink and green together in your quilt for Irish. And the back with the name is awesome!
I love the shamrock quilt, the pink and green, the white with the shamrock- all so pretty. I've been wanting to do a pink and green quilted something. Maybe a throw. Is this a particular pattern?
The "Irish" quilt is looking lovely. The green thread was the way to go.
