All Blocks Finished!

Oh my gosh!  I never thought I would get here, but I have all the blocks finished for the Home is Where the Heart is quilt.  Today, I put the finishing touches on December's block, including embroidering the reigns onto the reindeer and sewing the buttons on the tummies of the gingerbread men.

Do you have trouble sewing buttons on straight?  I sure do.

Once I had that finished, I laid all the blocks out on my design floor.  This quilt is going to be well worth all the time I've put into it.  It is going to be so much fun to see it all finished.

Laying it all out on the floor like this caused me to dismiss any ideas I had about free motion quilting it on my domestic sewing machine.  It's very large with just the blocks, and it still has about 12 inches in the three borders I need to sew onto it.

Now I'm ready to start shopping for fabric for the back.  I'm hoping to have the blocks sewn together and the first border on this weekend.  The second border is made up of log cabin blocks, and so I'll need to make those blocks before I can finish it up.

Almost there.  I am so glad.  This is my oldest and longest-running project ever.

That is a lot of blocks and a lot of beautiful appliqué. I never sew my buttons on straight, but I like them a little off, makes it more fun.

It would also work great as 12 mini quilts, not just as one large quilt.

I thought the block you were working on was great but all 12 together are STUNNING!
