Two NewFO's

Today I started two new projects. First, I started this month's stitchery on the Promises and Borders sew-along BOM.

Jenny of Elefantz suggests using variegated thread for the embroidery, and I found this "collector's edition" of DMC embroidery floss at JoAnn.

I like the variety of colors included in this 20-skein set, but I'm disappointed that there isn't more variegation in the floss.  When I started the embroidery this morning, I found that I was using the same color for an entire section of the motif.  Eventually, I will move further down the skein to more variation in the color, but for now, I'm working with one color on each part of the design.

I suppose I could cut multiple lengths from the same skein, but I'm afraid I'll end up with a mess of tangled floss.  This is all done in back stitch, which seems simple and quick compared to the stem stitch I've been using throughout the Mr. Bear stitcheries.

Then I started on the next doll quilt for my friend, Lisa's granddaughters.  This next one is for Kylee who likes horses and the color blue.  I was able to complete two of the four horse applique blocks and to start the third.

I still need to do the top-stitching on this third one.  I'll be using a contrasting red thread over the blue.

Initially, I was planning to use a contrasting solid for the manes and tails, but then decided to be even more whimsical by using contrasting polka dots.

I've decided to name this quilt "Pretty Little Ponies, taken from the lyrics of my favorite lullaby.

When my kids were babies, I used to sing this song to them in the dead of night when only the two of us were awake.  One of these days, I hope to sing it to a grandchild.

I found the same skein set at Joann's today! In the end I decided to go with individual skeins instead though, because the ones in the set did not really go that well with my main floral. I did find some individual variegated ones and added some solids too. I'm looking forward to this project - thanks so much for pointing it out!

Love the promises and borders stitcherys. I almost joined in on this one but found some embroidery that will work for another one of my NewFo's. So I opted for that rather than add another to my list. And I think I'll get started tonight.

The new BOM is a really nice one, but I am trying to work on what I have.
I love your ponies, such a cute idea. I have the cat fabrics, so need to make some fun cat applique quilts. Hmmm, just got an idea from an idea I thought of a few minutes ago, you inspired me;)

When I use those flosses, after I cut my lengths, I separate the strands and turn half upside down... kind of my own verigated...
