Here's today's entry from a trip to Monterey a few years back.
This is an iconic lone tree that can be seen from the 17-mile scenic drive on the Monterey peninsula. After spending time reading photography magazines that year, I learned that I could blur the movement of the ocean without over-exposing the image by using several neutral density filters stacked on top of one another. I used a tripod, of course, and also four filters so that I could lengthen the shutter time enough to blur the movement of the water without allowing too much light. It turned out okay. I love experimenting with new techniques.

Beautiful image. Playing around with techniques is fun. I don't do it often enough.
Love your photo! I'm amazed at what can be achieved with some of these cameras. Did you take a class? What camera do you use?
Beautiful Barbara! Makes me want to go there NOW!!!
it looks like clouds... very fun technique
Love that scene. Thanks for telling us how you did it.
did you by any chance change your settings on comments? I used to get the word verification at the same time as typing, and now I have to wait for it to appear after hitting publish...

Monterey is my favorite place in California. It's only about a 2 hour drive away and I go every chance I get. Beautiful photo!
