Here Comes the Sun

After several wet days, the sun came out today.  This is the time of year when our weather is warm and wet, or cold and dry.  While we haven't reached our coldest temperatures by a long shot, it is definitely chillier than it was a month ago.  In another month (or less), we could see the first snow.  We live at 1,400 feet, and the snow level has already dipped to 2,000 feet one evening.  As long as I don't have to go anywhere, I love the snow.  And these days, I rarely have anything planned that can't be rescheduled.

So when the sun shines, we try to get outside for a walk, even if it's just around the perimeter of the property.  While most things in the garden have moved into the twilight of their lives, the catnip is still going strong.  This delights Gracie to no end since she is the nip crackhead of the family.

They both love drinking puddle water that accumulates on every horizontal surface, especially that which accumulates in these plastic lawn chairs.

You can tell this is a wet climate.  Anything that doesn't move will eventually be covered over by moss, grass, or mushrooms.

This is the gravel driveway leading up to Mike's shop.  About two months ago, he sprayed Round-up to kill all the grass, and then used a burner to burn what wasn't killed by the Round-up.  It was clean as a whistle.  There was no grass growing anywhere.

This is how it looks today.

Keeping the grass at bay is a never-ending battle here.  Even George does his part.  (Mainly, I think he can't resist the opportunity to go back in the house and hork it back up.  Nice.  Thanks, George.)

Despite all the rain, the dahlias just keep blooming their guts out.

The maple trees will not be fooled, however.  They know what time of year it is.

So, did you remember to Fall Back?

So far this year, us New Jerseyans have had the feeling we've been transported to Oregon, at least rain-wise!

And yes, I did turn my clocks back. I couldn't forget, because I was working, and my usual 12-hour shift was a 13-hour shift!

How nice that Gracie & George each have their own chair puddle to drink from. You are so considerate of them.

More great pictures too. Your dahlias are so incredible & I love the red Maple leaves!

Yep, I did remember to fall back too. Although I think I still have a couple more clocks to change at homw....
