Ten a Day

I've come to a week of reckoning with my quilt projects.  I wished, hoped, and waited, but the yo-yo elves did not show up to make my yo-yo's.  Having realized that they will only get made if I make them, I decided to make ten per day until they're done.  I have 20 finished, 28 to go.  I'm trying to finish up the pieces of this quilt by July 1st.  Why July 1st, you ask?  Because on July 1st, I'll need to go back to working on the next stitchery for my Winter Wonderland UFO Challenge quilt.  I still need to finish the embroidery on the final block too, but if I work at it, that shouldn't be a problem.

George was so worn out from helping me with the yo-yo's that he crashed on the sofa.

Then, remembering there were ladies in the room, he adopted a modest pose.

But then the light was so bright, that didn't work either.

Position is everything in life.

So in keeping with my project reckoning, I reckoned that no one was going to come do the free motion quilting on my Flip Flop quilt either.

This quilt top was finished way back in August . . . and as I write that I realize that I'm bearing down on a year that it's been sitting waiting to be quilted.  It's been very patient . . . almost no whining from the closet at all.  Only when I open the door and see it sitting there.  I have in mind how I want to quilt it (which is half the battle in my mind).  A while back, I used the excuse that I needed to wait for the thread I'd ordered to arrive.  That was a long time ago.  I'm using a variegated yellow on the yellow parts and a deep midnight blue on the darker parts.

So with my attention turned to hand-sewing for last week and this week, it seems like a good time to set up my sewing machine for free motion quilting.  That means getting out the larger extension table and hooking up the stitch regulator.  I use a Queen Supreme Slider too.  With all that set up, I don't like to interrupt the process once I get it started.

While I was making my yo-yo's yesterday it occurred to me that free motion quilting would be a nice break from hand sewing, and it would allow me to finish this quilt top before I finish my Kitten's Tale quilt top.  If I don't, I'll have two tops sitting around waiting to be quilted.  I don't want that, and so I'm back to my original thought.  It's my project completion reckoning.  The only way through it is to do it.

I'm so glad we've had this little chat.  Now I'm off to make my quilt sandwich.

I agree with the cat. It's nap time. Cute flip flops.

Sounds like you have a plan, which is half the battle right. Then again, George's idea works too!

I agree - half the "struggle" is figuring out how I want to quilt a top. The flip flops are going to be really great. Can't wait to see it finished! And I'm totally loving the George pics. :D

P.S. I'm gonna hold you to getting those yo-yo's finished by month's-end and you hold me to getting my last month of Glacier Star sections made before July dawns on us! It will be a real push for me, but I'm soooooo desirous of having all my BOM's actually up-to-date for June!

George is adorable! My Moses sleeps that way, too - just mushes his face into the carpet or the cushion!
Love your flipflop quilt; it is just so cute. Are the straps 3D? Kinda looks that way in the photo, but I'm not sure. For me, the addiction is hexies, but I might have to try yo-yos!

Good job on the yo-yos. I made what seemed like a half a billion of them once, for my guild's very first opportunity quilt. I have not had the urge to do any since. lol

Sounds like you've got a good plan of attack for the rest of the week! Have fun with your FMQ on the Flip Flop quilt --- and don't forget to breathe!
