Foto Finish--Wildlife

This week's Foto Finish theme is:  Wildlife

Gosh, there's so much wildlife in my own backyard that it's tempting to go for one of those shots.  We've had so much rain this spring, however, that it's hard to get out with the camera.  I decided to go for one of the images in the archives.  Here's my entry:

When we went on our first snowbird trip a couple of years ago, one of our first destinations was Redwood National Park in Northern California.  We stayed at a campground called Elk Prairie.  As we were driving through the park looking for the campground, I asked Mike, "Do you think we'll see any elk?"  When we drove in, we were greeted by this massive guy.  Just look at that rack!  What a colossal treat!  There was a herd of bulls there throughout the day each day we stayed.  They were so close, we could hear them chomping on their grass.  It was so exciting to be able to see these splendid creatures up close and personal.  We wondered where all the cows were.  We saw them when we left the park, all together, with no bulls in sight.  I guess they weren't ready for hanky panky yet.

For next week's Foto Finish theme, I'd like to try something a little different.  Have you ever taken a picture of something that ended up looking mysteriously unidentifiable?  Ever experimented with different ways of cropping an image to make it more interesting?  I'd like to see what you've come up with.  So next week's Foto Finish theme will be:

"What is it?

As always, you can interpret the theme any way you like.  The more imaginative and mysterious the better.

Now I'm ready to see your wildlife images.  Here's Mr. Linky:

I've never seen elk but here in NH we have moose (maybe a relative?) and I've seen them up close. They are impressive. It's hard to realize their size until you see one standing next to the car. Great shot!

They are massive aren't they? My SIL and her husband hit one a couple of years ago and it totaled their Jeep.

I guess the elk aren'treal excitable? Weren't you concerned with them so close to your camp site?

That is just too cool! I never realized the color shading on an elk before.

Thanks for sharing & leading us along in Foto Finish Barbara.
(I have no picture this week - been sick & nothing interesting in my archives.)
