Foto Finish--Family

I chose this theme because of all the birthdays in my family this week. Matthew's 27th birthday was last Saturday, my dad's 88th birthday was Wednesday, and my mother and brother celebrated their birthday together today. Sadly, both passed away some years ago. I still can't let the day go by without noticing them.

That got me thinking about "Family" for this week's Foto Finish. Here's my family on our annual camping trip a few years ago:

We started camping at this Washington state park when Erik was just 18 months old. That would have been 1980, and we went almost every year for nearly thirty years. This picture was taken the last time (and I do mean that it's probably the last time) we were able to get together for our annual camping trip. I'm glad Mae was a part of this trip even though she and Erik hadn't yet married. (She already felt like one of the family by then.) Left to right are Erik, Matthew, Mike, some woman I've never met, and Mae. We had a lot of good times on those camping trips. Times change, however. I always knew they'd come to an end one day, and they probably have. Maybe when grandchildren come along they'll resume, but for now, I'm not counting on it.

I've been inspired by all the spring blossoms I've seen, and so for next week's theme I've decided on:

Flowering Trees

I love this time of year when all the trees are in bloom. But for now, I'm curious to see what your "family" images will be. Remember that you can interpret this theme any way you like, and it doesn't necessarily mean that your images will include people. Here's Mr. Linky:

This photo shows the remaining four kids of my nuclear family the day before we buried our middle sister in August 2008.

I've come to realize how precious the photos of your family traditions are. My family hates getting their picture taken, so I don't have a lot of photos of my sibling and parents.

It is often hard to get those family shots. Im always grabbing the camera and watching for those special moments.

Don't give up hope. I never thought my family would live close together again but sometimes circumstances change. You never know what the future holds.

I knew right away what I wanted to post for this one!

When I was a kid, we used to have 3 big get-togethers every year, Christmas, Easter & a summer family picnic. When my Grandma Dickie passed, we never quite kept it together like that again.

Like you said, maybe when some grandkids come along...
