Quilt Shop: To Quilt 'N Sew

The last of the three quilt shops I visited was To Quilt 'N Sew.  Given how busy the other two quilt shops were, I was surprised to find this one completely abandoned.  I apologize for this picture being so crooked.  I was trying to avoid a car parked outside:

This shop was an authorized Pfaff shop, and so if you have a Pfaff machine, this is probably the place for you.  The woman inside was friendly and attentive, which isn't surprising since I was the only customer in the place.  There appeared to be a large classroom in the back, and so I have a feeling that it is probably a good place to take classes.  She had some pretty fabrics, nicely displayed, and I purchased two yards of this:

The plumerias looked so realistic that I half expected to be able to smell their fragrance, which is heavenly if you've never smelled one.  I don't have anything in mind for this.  I just really liked it.  The background is a navy blue, by the way.  She had some great books, and I ended up with this one:

It has a block for every state in the union, including Washington, D.C.  There was also a CD so that I can print the blocks any size I want them for applique.  I can make them large for a state banner or smaller and make a quilt out of all fifty.  I'd never seen this book before, and it was a good find.  I could have gone wild with the books, but I restrained myself.

I can recommend this quilt shop.  It was more homey than the previous shop, but I'm always uncomfortable being the only customer.  I'll give it four rotary cutters out of five, again because it just seemed to lack character.  I'm on the hunt for a truly unique experience, and I'll have to continue searching beyond Bakersfield, I'm afraid.  I'm not complaining, however.  Quilters in Bakersfield have at least these three good quilt shops to choose from, and I imagine there are more.  These are just the ones I found listed in my directory.
