Quilt Shop: Strawberry Patches

Yay!  Finally, I was able to see a few quilt shops.  They weren't places I'd probably bother going back to just for fun, but I enjoyed seeing them just the same.  I managed to spend some money, so how bad can it be?  The first one was called Strawberry Patches.  It is a Bernina authorized dealer, and so they had items for my Bernina sewing machine.  Of the three I visited, I liked this one the best.

This shop was really cute on the inside, and it was positively humming with activity.  It's obviously a busy place more often than not.  Being busy, though, and as an outsider, it seemed a little disorganized and it wasn't obvious what I was supposed to do when I wanted some fabric cut.  Two of their employees seemed to be taking orders for custom-made quilts.  One woman seemed dedicated to cutting, and so I figured it out without too much delay.

They had lots of cute fabrics and I picked a yard of each of these:

I'm not sure what those green spots are in the corners--just ignore that.  It's all oranges and yellows.  I thought this one would be cute as a part of my Orange Crush quilt.  Here are the blocks I've made for that one so far:

I've been drawing on fabrics from my stash, but I think I'll need more different ones before I'm finished.  Then I liked these two . . . just because.  I like polka dots, for one thing, and I just thought the other one was cute:

The bottom one is from a collection and I have some of the other fabrics in the collection, although I've not seen this before.  Then when I got up to the cash register, I found these cute little tags for sewing onto finished quilts.  They are tiny:  maybe one-half inch tall by one inch wide.  So cute:

So, obviously, I enjoyed this quilt shop.  The service was adequate, but not overly welcoming.  If you're looking for a Bernina authorized dealer in Bakersfield for some reason, I can believe this is probably a good place to go.  I'd probably give them four rotary cutters out of five, and I can recommend a visit if you happen to be in Bakersfield, California.

Thank you for visiting our store Barbara. It's always good to hear the first impressions from a first time visitor. Just to clarify; Strawberry Patches is the Bakersfield dealer for Bernina not Quilters Haven. I believe Quilters Haven carries Brother and Viking. Anyway, thank you for stopping. So glad you found some fabrics that worked for you and I think those yellow daisies are perfect for your quilt. You'll love the little tags. PS: We love all of our customers - first time or repeating!

Suzanne: Thank you for setting me straight about your shop. I've made those changes to this post, and also to the post on Quilters Haven. Thanks for your comment.
