Sewing Rainbows

Pfelicity and I spent some quality time together this morning. I was feeling a little intimidated by her yesterday, and so I gave myself a break by only stitching straight lines on scrap fabric. This morning I was ready to do something a little more challenging.

I figure while we're getting acquainted, I'd just do some straight piecing. It seemed like a perfect time to get caught up on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.

Recall that I'm making this Dream Machines quilt for the challenge:

And if you like this quilt, you can find the free pattern right here. This morning I made the green block:

And the purple block:

Does it seem perfectly poetic that the first blocks I made with my new sewing machine, Pfelicity, are sewing machines themselves? I'm thinking that must be some kind of good omen. The buttons you see are just lying there for now. I won't sew them on until the quilt is completed. I wanted to use different colors of buttons, but I also wanted them to match. I was able to find these one-inch wooden buttons on Etsy in bright colors recently. I think they'll be perfect for my sewing machine knobs.

That's probably all the sewing I'll do today. With the sewing machine do-si-do I've been doing for the past several days, I've fallen completely behind in my housework...not to mention falling off the exercise bandwagon. I'm going swimming this morning, and then I'll come home and do some housework. Not a great way to spend the day, but the house will enjoy the attention.

If I get things done to my satisfaction, I'm going to finish off the label for the Intel Underneath quilt, and then I'll get started on one of my mini-projects for May. Next up, I'd like to get started on this stained glass applique wall hanging, Yukon Sanctuary:

Pfelicity and I are getting along fine, but it still takes me twice as long to do anything since I have to double-check myself every step of the way. This little wall-hanging has the advantage of not requiring any sewing until I'm ready to do the top-stitching. (Heaves sigh of relief.)

In other news, I won one of the prizes in last month's ALYoF's drawings. Lucky me...I won a custom fabric package of four yards of fabric from Thimblepie's Quilt Supplies. It arrived yesterday with lots of pretties for me to fondle. Such pretty earth tones from Jane Holbrook. Thank you for donating this lovely prize, Jane.

And speaking of prizes...did anyone else totally miss the announcement for Giveaway Day? I would have held a giveaway here, but I didn't know about it until the day it started. Hmph. And judging by my reading list, a lot of you must have missed the announcement too, because I'm seeing precious few of you participating. That's not a complaint or a whine...just an observation. Don't know how I missed it. I'll hold a giveaway a little later on. It's time, but I'll wait for the glow of Giveaway Day to die down. And if you're making the rounds of all the giveaways, then good luck to you!

So that's it from me. I hope you have a lovely day. Time to get going if I'm going to make it to the pool today.

I noticed it too and figure I will have to do one for next month. I am going through my fabrics and reorganizing and I really need to share, way too much stuff for me to use;)

I think the sewing machines are just so cute and have it on my Fall season list. There was NO advance announcements on SMMS give away day (I always thought it was in June)- I just happened to see it on someone's 'early' give away post and put it up on my side bar. I have my May For Me going on so not going to sweat it.

I think you an new machine will be very happy together if those blocks are anything to go by. I missed give away day as well but maybe a few of us can run our own give away day in June or July. I haven't done a give away for a while.

Great blocks. It takes time to get to know a new sewing friend but it will be so much fun when you can put the pedal to the floor and sew away.
