Sunrise, Sunset

It was a quiet day from start to finish yesterday. We started out with a pretty sunrise.

The moment the newest inchy was posted, I went straight to work. This one was French knots, double lazy daisy, backstitch, and blanket stitch. I'm going to outline all of mine with a blanket stitch. It'll be good practice.

It was an over and under kind of day for the kitties. Ordinarily, table surfing is off limits, but we are a little more permissive in the small space of the RV.

While I was stitching, Mike was reading up on how we could stream from his phone to our television. We were in the middle of something from Netflix when we were "throttled back" on our data usage. Mike figured out a way to make it work again, and that required a trip to a Best Buy in Henderson to pick up the cables and plugs he needed. It was a clear day and we had a good view of Las Vegas and the mountains beyond. Notice the snow capped mountain far off in the distance.

Also, I asked the Google to find another quilt shop near me. The Google kind of failed me this time. It found Downtown Sewing Machine Co. in Henderson, but there was a note next to the listing that said it should be listed as a "quilt shop." Okay, I'll bite, and so we found it. Here's how it looks from the outside.

Inside, it turned out to be pretty much what it said it was...a place that serviced sewing machines. They did have some quilting supplies and a supply of fabric on one wall, but this wasn't my idea of a quilt shop.

I like lots of color and I like to really look at and feel the fabric. Here, the fabric was all along one wall, and so tightly packed on shelves, I couldn't even pull off a bolt without literally pulling out the bolt, and leaving the fabric still on the shelf, if that makes sense. The two upper shelves were so high, I not only couldn't see the fabric, I couldn't reach it either. Yeah...kind of a bust. I didn't stay long.

I dried my tears while stitching my own redwork quilt shop, and then I felt better. Yes, it was my second stitching round of the day, and my thumb was no worse for wear. It still hurts, but it's tolerable.

Insofar as my shoulder and thumb are concerned, my thumb has gotten short shrift in my medical dealings. If it isn't feeling substantially better by the time we get home (in about a month), I'm going to check in with a hand specialist who will give it the attention it deserves.

There was a beautiful red sunset last night. Red sky at night, sailors' delight! It's a little hard to get up high enough for these images. With Mike's help, I climbed up into the bed of the truck to get above all the power lines and RV roofs.

Day is done.

Smitty is bored this morning. It's been very windy for about the past 24 hours. It's too windy for him to be on his catio, and so for now, he's taken up napping on the back of our couch. There, he can watch the goings on outside without the wind mussing up his furs.

I'm ready to do today's inchy, but I haven't started it yet. We're going to do our grocery shopping today. The weather is supposed to be less windy and warmer tomorrow, and so we'll save our next hike for the better weather.

There is a shop near me that sells machines (up to even longarms), repairs them and sells vacuums. They have a limited supply if fabrics and this shop you shared reminds me very much of them. It definitely does not draw me in! And tell Smitty things aren't all bad...my Gabby is in day 14 of healing from her surgery and has spent 12 of them in my bedroom. (The other two at the emergency hospital.) Wearing an inflatable cone of shame. Tomorrow she earns her freedom! But I wouldn't wish her troubles on anyone...and have been very diligent about taking care of sewing threads since the incident.

I've been to a few of those "quilt" shops. Always a bit disappointing. Glad you had a nice, relaxing day and that your thumb is doing okay with the stitching.

Good morning! The quilting shops around here have pretty much disappeared. I have started using fabric from other items that I buy at yardsales and thrift stores...not exactly a bad thing...only I don't get to do those two things either during covid. Using up what I have...as in the old saying..."use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without". I've taken to embroidery on linen with cotton batting behind it...so don't need a hoop.
Enjoy your blog...love your kitties. Continue to heal.

Good thing you have a resident Techie Guru! Too bad about the disappointing 'quilt shop' - reminds me of the one we have here in town. I have only been inside once and most people tend to avoid it if they can get somewhere else. The owner isn't particularly nice either so that's not an incentive to visit either.
Beautiful sky photos!

"Quilt shops" like that are VERY frustrating! So sorry! We here in central Oregon are continuing to have strong wind gusts, up to 50 mph, Sunshine just came out! Enjoying your vacation with you!
