Lake Brownwood State Park

We were off to an early start yesterday morning because we were meeting up with some friends from our high school days for a picnic and some catching up. We had about 150 miles to travel, and so there was no time to waste if we were to get there for lunch. I've neglected posting any pictures of the kitties for a couple of days, and I knew some of y'all would be getting weird, nervous, and thirsty about it. Before we took off, I snapped pictures of both of them. They are such relaxed travelers these days. Pretty much nothing bothers them.

Sadie is harder to photograph because she's very active and kind of a wiggler. It's hard to get her in focus.

Smitty is more of a poser.

It was about 2 1/2 hours of driving to get to the state park. Along the way we passed this little chapel in Fredericksburg. There's no indication if services are held there, but wouldn't it make a nice wedding chapel?

Also the county courthouse in Mason, Texas.

Here's the county courthouse in Brady, Texas.

We drove some desolate highways and arrived at the park right around noon.

My friend, Lenelda, suggested the park as a meeting place, and what a lovely spot it turned out to be. Our campsite is right on the lake.

It's a large lake formed from a dam that was built at the confluence of Pecan Bayou and Jim Ned Creek for flood control and control of irrigation and drinking water.

Except for that RV off in the background, we pretty much have the place to ourselves.

We got Smitty out for a walk right away. He wasn't able to get out at our last stop because of the cats running around that place. I worried about him getting involved in a rumble.

Lenelda and Bill showed up just a little bit later. They brought a picnic of Texas BBQ and some delicious salads that Lenelda made. I made a Key Lime Tart for dessert. We sat and ate and gabbed all afternoon, and it was very, very nice. The weather was just about perfect.

They left late afternoon to drive back to Ft. Worth before dark. As the sun was setting I got out and took some pictures. The light was pretty. Here's another kildeer.

The reflections were pretty on the lake.

And that was our day.

This morning we're heading down the road to Lubbock. We looked for a park with asphalt spaces because Mike needs to crawl around on his hands and knees repairing the landing gear on the front of the trailer. He figures he'll need two days for that job, and so we're staying four nights in Lubbock.

With the large blank space above the door at that cute little church, it's crying out for a quilt block! "Steps to the Altar" maybe?

What a beautiful park! Glad you got to have a nice visit with old chums. :)
