Two People, Older than Dirt

Forty years of marriage will cause you to grow older. It'll also make your hair blow back. In some cases it'll blow the hair clean off your head. Wrinkles will appear without notice and uninvited. Your teeth might fall out, and your joints can ache. You'll cease being able to run the 50 yard dash in less than five minutes. You'll no longer be able to do the standing broad jump without hurting yourself in the process. Cats will take up residence in your home. Children may come. The children will cause chaos and worry, while simultaneously making your heart sing. Just about the time you have them civilized, they'll move away, and you'll miss them. You'll still have the cats...always the cats. Think carefully before embarking on such a project as 40 years of marriage, and then do it anyway. Be sure to wear sunglasses along the way. And don't forget to wear your sunscreen.

We all need a little dirt to build our foundation on! Congrats on your 40th....it's a special milestone for two special people! And gee....cats are just a bonus, regardless of how many years you are married. Happy 40th and many, many more!

Congratulations on your happy milestone. (we're looking at 50 in Jan.) I am so convinced we'd be very good friends. Every time I read your blog I see a bit of me in there....uh oh.

Many congrats both! You don't look too bad considering you've weathered all that 'worry' and ensuing 'chaos' - let alone the children and cats. I'm guessing it may have something to do with your happy attitudes to life and a shared sense of humour too!
Hope you have a great break and enjoy a tasty anniversary meal

Congratulations on 40 years of wedded bliss! My husband and I are right behind you (two short years to go)! I can relate to everything you said and had a laugh in the process.

Congrats! We're about 2 years ahead of you and still going strong. Well, maybe not strong, but still going! LOL!

40 years is something to Crow about in these days of throw away marriages. We celebrate 40 next year. I hear ya about the heart singing when the grandchildren come. Have a happy day!

There's a lot to be said for old dirt! Congratulations to both of you - you've weathered the storms and sunny days well and most importantly...together.

That milestone deserves a 'high five' and congrats! As Cathie J above said--your humor has surely helped to make that 40 years possible. We all know that living with anyone, no matter how much loved, is difficult. Maybe it's the cats--we have had at least one cat all the 47 years of our marriage (we have 4 now!)

I like your thoughts on 40 years or marriage, I agree with them all since we have been married 45 and still having fun.
