Foto Finish: Red

The optional theme for this week's Foto Finish is "Red".  Here's my entry:

We get swarms of hummingbirds at the Three Cats Ranch each spring.  They seem to be staying later into the fall and coming back earlier in the spring.  I'm not sure what would cause them to hang out longer in the cold . . . possibly a problem with the food source where they migrate to and from?  In any case, we do enjoy having them.

We have Anna's hummingbirds and Rufus hummingbirds.  Both are strikingly beautiful.  I imagine we have nests around, but I've never seen one.  I keep looking.  It's always fun to watch them zipping around fighting over the feeders.  We have three feeders and we set them up so that no one bird can guard all three at the same time.  That doesn't stop them from trying.  And there's always an interloper who just makes his way to the feeder while two others are fighting it out.

For next week's Foto Finish theme, I'm going to choose a shape.  How about "Stripes".

Now I'm ready to see your Red images.  Here's Mr. Linky:

I love your hummingbird! My grandmother used to put out sugar water for them.

Wow, great shot! Hummingbirds are one of the toughest birds to shoot I think. The hummingbirds start hanging out around our roeses in the early summer. Haven't seen any here yet this year.

We have the same two types here. Aren't they wonderful to watch? We've had so many this year. I posted a picture on my blog with 11 at one feeder. I joke that I need to get a job to feed the birds.

Great picture, Hummingbirds are so hard to get pictures of, I've only seen two and they're so fast. I think I'm going to put out feeders.

This picture captures this sweet little bird well. Here in S. California we have the Anna's as well-maybe someday I will be able to snap a photo of one of them.
